How are the palletized products shipped?
We have been shipping these tiles for over ten years and have tested many, many shipping configurations and know these shipping configurations to be the best. Small orders are placed inside a wooden crate and the boxes are secured inside the crate. Crates are expensive but they protect the hand-made tiles on all four sides. You can see from the picture below of the tiles inside a wooden crate the tiles are completely protected. On top of the crate is the packing slip and a DO NOT double stack cone and Caution Heavy notice is placed on all four sides of the crate.
For larger shipments BANDING is the key! Each pallet is limited in weight to 1,700 lbs. You will notice that the pallet has space around all four edges. This is because during shipping the pallet will likely be hit and if the product is not packed to the corners of the pallets the impact will be absorbed by the pallet and not the tiles. The pallet is then securely wrapped and a DO NOT double stack cone and Caution Heavy notice is placed on all four sides of the pallet.

How much additional product should we order?
Consider this scenario. You received your product four (4) weeks ago and it is time for the installation process. You installer has dropped a box of tiles and now you need more product. Paying for shipping is a headache in itself, but if we run out of the matching lot then it takes you to a whole new level of frustration. Also, if your product was a custom order, made just for your, the timeline for the entire production of your tiles starts over.
To avoid this nightmare scenario, you should consider adding 20% extra to your order. Ten percent is for cuts and waste on the immediate job and the other 10% is insurance. You should save it. Having done this for decades, we repeatedly have customers come back to us looking for a small amount of tile from their previous order. For example, you might have to replace a shower head or some other minor change which will result in tiles getting broken.

How about durability?
Cement and terrazzo tiles are extremely durable. The top layer (the design layer) is ¼” thick. So unlike ceramic tiles, which when chipped show the white of the underlying layer, the design aesthetic will not be compromised if a cement or terrazzo tile is chipped. If you chip a cement or terrazzo tile, you simply sand the surface of the tile to remove the divot created by the chip and the tile will be restored.
